The Ghosts of the Somerville-Graham House

Rose gave me a tour of her home, the Somerville-Graham House, that has seen much history. It is still being replayed over and over, in Warrenton, NC. She filled me in on her weird experiences along the way.

A heavenly white Christmas tree stands in the corner near the fireplace of this front bedroom. It is adorned with white angels, doves and other ornaments all exuding the feeling of peace and joy. It’s breathtaking to look at any time of year. A life-size young girl mannequin stands next to it, as if she is in the middle of trimming the tree. She is as graceful as a sculptured work of art. The scene casts an aura on the room bringing life to it.

Rose said, “I came into this room to clean it one afternoon after guests of ours left. I was in a bit of a hurry. I rushed in then stopped. A vapor was right near the tree. It seemed to be hovering. Maybe it was looking it over, I don’t know. It moved as if it noticed me. It turned toward me, moved again and stopped. Then it moved all the way across the room. I just stood there stunned. All of a sudden I just chuckled and said aloud, ‘Helen is that you? How do you like the tree?’ Then I left it to do whatever I was doing.”

LIVING WITH GHOSTS True Stories of New Jersey

Excerpt from:
A VISITOR STOPS BY
Under the Moon Café’
Estela and Santiago were so successful in their separate businesses that a much larger location was needed for each.  They decided to merge their talents into one location. Under the Moon Café was relocated in the much larger space in the former, long-time location of the Miller-Magowan Men’s Clothing Store on Farnsworth Avenue.

Remodeling is often the first thing to do when buying a building to rearrange it to suit your business. It is also the very thing that wakens sleeping spirits and gets them moving around in an old space. That is what happened in the new location for Under the Moon Café.
Santiago’s creative juices started flowing with ideas on remodeling to give the building a totally Under the Moon Café look.

Charlie soon made his first appearance to Estela.

Estela said,  “There is an old man dressed in all black. He wears a tall hat and a long coat.  I call him Charlie. He plays with the coffee machine. Turn it on. Turn it off. Turn it on. Turn it off. At first I didn’t know it was Charlie. I called the company about the machine. ‘It turns on and off by itself,’ I told them.  They came out to check the machine.
They said the machine works perfectly fine. Then I knew it was Charlie. I said, ‘Charlie, if you want to play, you can play.’ He played with the cups and the Chimichanga glasses. Not like he drops them, he places them gently. I see them fly through the air but not like being thrown; he does it gently.
Often when Santiago goes into the basement to bring up supplies, somebody will tap him on the shoulder. He will look over his shoulder.  Nobody is there. At times a strong smell, not unpleasant, will permeate the air. Other times, voices are heard. Employees remark that they, too, experience the same things when they go down there!”  Full story in Living with Ghosts at Amazon.com

Great reading! Ge in the mood for Halloween! A few excerpts: Somerville-Graham House   Kathleen: “I came into this (bed) room to clean it one afternoon after guests of ours left. I was in a bit of a hurry. I rushed in, and then stopped. A vapor was right near the (Christmas) tree. It seemed to be hovering! Maybe it was looking it over, I don’t know! It moved as if it noticed me! It turned toward me, moved again and stopped! Then it moved all the way across the room! I just stood there stunned! All of a sudden I just chuckled and said aloud, ‘Helen is that you? How do you like the tree?’ Then I left it alone to do whatever it was doing.

Oakley Hall Plantation-  The guys said they wanted to talk to us because they were concerned about something that happened to them. These two guys never drank on the job, they were dependable, every day type of guys, very reliable people. They smoked cigarettes but did not drink until after the workday ended.

They started with “Has anything unusual ever happened to you guys in the house? I ask because something happened to us this week.”

“Well we heard the house has some . .  stories. What happened?” Don said.

“While we were upstairs working a man walked out of the wall and crossed the bedroom, never acknowledging us, and walked into the wall across the room.”

Living with Ghosts!

Bordentown & Burlington City Hauntings

OMG! It’s a great time to read ghost stories, real, true ghost stories.

Here are a few excerpts from Living with Ghosts

BORDENTOWN, NEW JERSEY  The Shadow Cat & More           -Lora’s Tale…

“We were talking as I glanced over to what would be my daughter’s room off to the right of me. The shadow of a cat strolled out of her room, walked down the hallway right past me. Just walking, right past me! ‘Well,’ I thought. ‘That is interesting. A cat that is just a shadow.’ I didn’t say anything.”

Mill Street  –    Red’s Stories of the Past

One night John went to the outhouse, which had a little window in it. While he was sitting there he looked up and saw the Devil looking in at him. When he ran out the door, he saw the Devil was half person, half goat. He ran to the house screaming “it’s the Devil! It’s the Devil.” The next morning when he and the farmhand went out to the outhouse they found hoof prints all around the outhouse.

The White House-  The Sara and Trevor Story

His skilled hands worked intently as his mind concentrated on the issue. Becoming distracted, he glanced over the room.  He saw the head of a man floating along from the bedroom into what was to become the private bathroom!

SYNCHRONICITY & REINCARNATION?

Synchronicity pops up often in my life, as it did a few days ago. A friend handed me a book, Portrait of a Past Life Skeptic by Robert L. Snow that her daughter told her to give to me. I was pleasantly surprised as I recognized the title and author’s name. In 2012 he spoke at the A.R.E. in Virginia Beach, VA where I was attending a past-life regression seminar. I was impressed with his story but had limited funds for buying books, so I didn’t get his that day.
As I read his story it brought his appearance back to me. He was a police captain for 30 years in Indianapolis, IN who, on a dare, experienced a past life regression with Dr. Griffith. As his career must suggest, he believed in facts, only facts; the here and now, certainly no New-Age stuff, even after his session.
It was difficult for him to accept that he once lived in the 1800s as an extremely successful artist, J. Carroll Beckwith. Yet the experience rolled around in the back of his mind until he started doing some research to disprove what happened to him once and for all. Except that it didn’t disprove it. Instead it proved that he once lived as the artist.

Being an artist, I had been impressed by his story enough to do some research of my own and found a few of his paintings online. His most famous portrait of The Lady in Red was featured in one of my art books. Even though I had learned some bits about reincarnation when I heard him speak, I learned even more by reading his full story in the book. I especially enjoyed his wrap-up at the end where he says how the experience has opened his mind to learn so much more about life and the afterlife.

I loved his book! Taking the day off from a computer who was sassing back at me in the way of not doing what I wanted it to do, I finished reading the book in one day. When I emailed Lisa, thanking her, not knowing why she chose to send it to me, but happy that she did.
Well, she didn’t. She sent it to my friend Arlene and it got to me by mistake! Or by synchronicity!
